Legal Resources
We hope the resources below are helpful to you. Of course, while we are happy to provide links to these resources, we cannot be responsible for their accuracy or applicability to your situation. Online Child Support Calculator The Indiana Supreme Court has an online child support calculator and we encourage current and potential clients to experiment with the calculator. To progress through the site to the calculator, click the red 'Select a Child Support Calculator' button. We recommend that you pick the first option: Online Step-by-Step Calculator. Of course, please keep in mind that the results provided by the calculator are not official until approved by a judge. Child support situations can fit into the guidelines neatly, but often there are special circumstances that mean a parent may need to deviate from the guidelines. Indiana Parenting Time Guidelines If the parents of a child do not live together, Indiana Courts look to the Indiana Parenting Time Guidelines. We encourage current and potential clients to read through the guidelines and to be familiar with the general provisions. Section I discusses how separated parents can best work together to make the situation as comfortable as is possible for the child(ren). Section II gives specific parenting times for a typical situation where the parents are within easy distance of each other. Section III discuss the difficulties that arise when the parents are a significant distance apart. Parents can seek to adjust the guidelines if appropriate for their child(ren), but should be aware that most judges begin with the guidelines as a strong presumption. Collaborative Divorce You can get more information about Collaborative Divorce, and see what other attorneys in our area are collaborative lawyers, on the web site for the International Academy of Collaborative Professionals (IACP). We also find that Wikipedia--at least at the time of this posting---has a very readable and informative article on Collaborative Divorce. Pro Bono (free) Attorney Services Stafford Law Office, LLC does accept pro bono (free) cases by referral through the District 10 Pro Bono Project. District 10 covers Monroe, Owen, Lawrence, and Greene counties, and connects low income people to volunteer attorneys. If you cannot afford an attorney, contact District 10 directly at (812) 339-3610 to see if you are eligible for their services. If you are interested in other providers of free legal services, you can use the Indiana Pro Bono Commission's web site to find possibilities. You may also be able to represent yourself, by using forms at the Indiana Supreme Court's Self Service Legal Center.
